Machine produces chlorine gas for use in testing, eliminating need for bottles

Paragon, a small British electronics business, is now the sole manufacturer of GazCal, a small unit specifically designed to produce a low concentration of Chlorine (CL2) gas for use in the testing and calibration of gas detectors, mainly in safety systems, without having to use bottled gas.

The unit can also be used for cross calibration purposes, Chlorine Dioxide, Ozone and Fluorine equipment depending upon the sensor manufacturer’s recommendations.

Due to its size, Paragon say the unit is ideal for on-site engineers, with calibration gas available just a few minutes after the unit is switched on. The company is also keen to point out that the units compact and rugged construction makes it ideal for the most aggressive environments. Supplied as a battery-operated unit complete with its own charger, the unit can generate chlorine gas for long periods of time.

When switched off, the chlorine cell does not degrade – life expectancy of the cell and equipment is purely based on usage. Paragon also say that with regular calibration and servicing, a GazCal can work perfectly well for up to 10 years without a cell change. Calibration is only needed once a year.

Normally supplied with a flow rate pre-set at 0.5 lpm or 1.0 lpm, any flow rate between 0.3 lpm and 1.0 lpm can be provided and with an adjustable concentration of between 0.5ppm and 20ppm the unit can be used for multiple sensor settings without the need for several bottled gas concentrations.

Certified to produce Chlorine gas mixtures within +/-10% of the nominal value, the GazCal can also produce a stable 2ppm concentration with+/-0.25ppm accuracy.
