Global flood defence specialist, Flood Control International, has been awarded a contract by MWH Treatment, on behalf of Thames Water Utilities, to deliver flood resilience works to a number of sites, as part of Thames’ Flood Resilience Programme.
The contract, worth in excess of £1.5M, requires Flood Control International to provide protection measures to protect four sites against a 0.5% probability (1-in-200-year flood risk) fluvial, pluvial or groundwater flood event, including 300mm freeboard allowance for climate change. The solutions include side hinged floodgates, vertically hinged pivot floodgates, slot-in barriers, steel plate walls and other solutions specific to each site, with Flood Control International undertaking site surveys, design calculations, drawings and quality documentation packs, as well as the manufacture of equipment, installation and installation co-ordination.
The sub-contract was awarded following Flood Control International’s completion of a minor works design-only sub-contract, which enabled options to be considered for final scoping.

Flood Control International’s scope of works for the project commenced September 2022 and is expected to be completed in November 2023.
