Government proposal to relax nutrient neutrality rules for housebuilders defeated in House of Lords

The House of Lords has rejected the UK government’s plans to relax nutrient neutrality laws for housebuilders in a vote late on Wednesday 13th September. 

Government had suggested the laws, first introduced across the EU in 2017, were hindering the housebuilding industry, whereas environmental groups warned this would be a backwards step for environmental improvement.
