Yorkshire Water is investing £2.6m to instal a new surface water separation system at Alport Road Combined Sewer Overflow (CSO) to reduce storm discharges into Shire Brook during periods of heavy or prolonged rain.
Work will be carried out in 30-60m at a time and with temporary road closures and traffic management in place to keep everyone safe. This will complete at the end of September at the junction of Silkstone Road.
Lumi Ajayi, project manager, Yorkshire Water said:
“This project completes a trio of works to reduce storm overflows and improve water quality including £1.4m investment at Cricket Inn Crescent, and £330k project at Wharncliffe Side and is part of Yorkshire Water’s two-year, £180m investment across the region to reduce storm discharges into local water courses.
“The new storage tank will store and separate surface water which will then be slowly released into the river, preventing it from entering the combined sewer network and limiting storm overflows as a result. Work to reduce storm overflows continues in our five-year plan (2025-2030) when we will be investing over £1.5bn to improve infrastructure to reduce storm discharges into local watercourses.”
