Thames Tideway takes top prize at the ITA Tunnelling Awards 2024

At the recent ITA Tunnelling Awards, held in Genoa, London’s Thames Tideway took the top prize in the Major Projects category. The 25km long CSO interceptor super sewer was announced as the Gold Trophy winner.

Gold Trophy winners in all seven categories were:

Major Project of the Year – €500 million+

Thames Tideway – London’s Super Sewer, UK

Project of the Year – €50-€500 million

Brenner Base Tunnel – Lot H52 Hochstegen, Austria

Renovation Project of the Year

Manfreida Road Tunnel Renovation Project, Italy

Product/Equipment Innovation of the Year

Ultra-Small Turning Radius Hard Rock TBM, China

Technical Innovation of the Year

Disc Cutter Wear Sensor Package and TBM Monitoring System, South Korea

Beyond Engineering

Modern Underground Cemetery – Where Creativity, Sustainability and Efficiency Meet Tradition, Israel

Young Tunneller of the Year

Luigi D’Angelo, Italy, 34

In concluding the evening of celebrations, ITA President Arnold Dix announced that Belgrade, Serbia, will organise the 2025 series of ITA Tunnelling Awards in conjunction with the SETC Southeastern Europe Tunnelling Conference 1-3 October 2025.
