Pick Everard announces new flood risk and hydrology director

Multi-disciplinary consultancy, Pick Everard, has announced the appointment of Seymour D’Oyley as its new associate director of flood risk and hydrology.

A chartered member of the Institution of Water and Environmental Management, Seymour brings more than 28 years of experience in civil engineering, water resources, flood risks, and environmental management.

His career spans the UK and Jamaica, where he has held key roles in government agencies and private consultancies, including six years as an area hydrologist at Environment Agency Wales (now Natural Resources Wales) and five years at the Water Resources Authority in Jamaica. His CV includes experience working across multiple sectors, including retail, education, major highways, rail, industrial, and residential.

In his new role at Pick Everard, Seymour will blend his extensive and varied technical expertise with his business and operation management skills to expand the firm’s flood risk and hydrology services.

Seymour said: “I’m in a privileged position having been involved in hydrology, water resources, and environmental management projects internationally. That means I have a unique blend of experience, but also different perspectives on how to tackle different challenges creatively.

“I’m really looking forward to bringing that expertise to Pick Everard, working with a growing team and delivering flood risk and water management services across the UK. Especially as the built environment needs to consider the challenges arising from climate change, water management has arguably never been more important to development.

“There is already a wealth of fantastic schemes being worked on by the team, and I’m keen to dive in and provide our clients with the expertise they need to make informed decisions, reduce risk, and ultimately leave positive and lasting legacies.”

Seymour will play a pivotal role in enhancing these capabilities further, building an even more bespoke approach to assessments and detailed catchment management strategies.

Pick Everard currently offers services ranging from simple desk-top investigations of the impact of new developments, through more involved data gathering and analysis, to highly complex hydraulic modelling. This includes urban flood forecasting, catchment planning, hydrology, surface water and drainage assessments, and flood risk assessments.

James Sereda-Barsby, director of hydraulic modelling at Pick Everard, said:

“Flood risk and water management play a crucial role in the long-term success of any development. As extreme weather events become more common in the UK and the complexities of water management evolve, it’s essential that we expand our expertise and team to support our clients.

“Seymour’s vast experience in the water and environment sector, both in the UK and internationally, makes him a fantastic addition to our team – and we know his expertise will be instrumental in driving forward our flood risk and hydrology offering.”

With 13 UK offices, Pick Everard employs more than 700 multi-disciplinary professionals who specialise in sustainability and energy, architecture, project and programme management, civil engineering, building services, environmental services, cost and commercial management, health and safety services, and landscape architecture.
