Anglian Water continues its multi-million-pound investment in Peterborough

Anglian Water is continuing with its £27million investment into the water and sewage infrastructure in Peterborough. Following work across the city this year, the next stage of work will be to upgrade the water mains in Folksworth.

The water company is investing over £750,000 to replace 1.8km of water mains to ensure the village’s supply remains safe and reliable for decades to come.

The scheme in Folksworth is in addition to the £1.3million already invested by the water company to improve the sewer network off Thorpe Road in the city centre, which took place last September.

Collectively, the work taking place across the city includes improvements to local sewers – reducing the chance of leaks and bursts as well a huge smart metering programme – upgrading 90,000 water meters to help customers to monitor their water usage and save money on their bills. Plus, flood alleviation schemes to protect homes and the environment against extreme weather and new pipelines to ensure the network is fit for the future.

Emma Staples, from Anglian Water’s community team, said: “This investment will ensure we keep taps running for our customers in Folksworth for many years and helps reduce disruption and leakage, which we know is really important to our customers.

“The investment that we are making in Peterborough is incredibly important for both the community and the environment. People don’t necessarily think about their water service until there’s an issue, which is rare, so it was great to talk to local customers recently about the work we are doing in the area, and the more surprising things Anglian Water in pioneering. We were also on hand to offer advice about how we can help people save water and save money on their water bills.”
